Two students were killed instantly, and one was injured when the motorcycle they were riding overshot the road and collided with a tricycle in Brgy. Bulanao, Tabuk City, Kalinga.

According to Kalinga Police Provincial Office spokesperson PCapt. Ruff Manganip, the three students from Kalinga National High School were traveling from their school when their motorcycle struck a tricycle at an intersection on Bulanao National Road.

The police investigation revealed the motorcycle was speeding, causing it to jump the center island and crash into the tricycle.

Due to the impact, the tricycle tipped over, injuring a passenger, a teacher, while two students sustained fatal head injuries, reportedly without wearing helmets.

The third student is recovering at Cagayan Valley Medical Center.

PCapt. Manganip highlighted the strict checkpoints conducted by the police, although students often bypass them using alternate routes due to Tabuk’s extensive road network.

He further noted that despite regular school monitoring, some parents continue allowing minors to drive motorcycles without licenses or safety gear.

Many student drivers were also reported to lack helmets and other protective equipment, raising safety concerns.
