MANILA – The Philippine Navy (PN) patrol ship, BRP Nestor Reinoso (PC-380), extended assistance to a South Korean passenger vessel that suffered mechanical issues while navigating the waters of Ilocos Norte.
According to a statement released on Friday, the PN reported that the vessel, Udosarang 1, encountered a mechanical malfunction around 9 a.m. on February 5 while sailing near Burgos town.
Upon receiving the distress alert, the Naval Forces Northern Luzon (NFNL), the unit overseeing the area, promptly dispatched the BRP Nestor Reinoso to provide aid.
The patrol ship operates under NFNL’s Naval Task Force 11.
“The emergency alert was detected by the Maritime Situation Awareness Center – North (MSAC-N) and Naval Monitoring Detachment Pasuquin (NMD Pasuquin). The vessel’s malfunction restricted its ability to maneuver, prompting NFNL to take swift action. After establishing communication with Udosarang 1, PC-380 escorted it to Sual, Pangasinan, where necessary repairs could be carried out safely,” the Navy stated.
The PN also confirmed that all nine Filipino crew aboard Udosarang 1 were unharmed and had no further issues.
