The House Young Guns have challenged Vice President Sara Duterte to testify under oath before they agree to her call for them to undergo drug and psychological tests.

La Union Rep. Paolo Ortega, a member of the Young Guns, said in an interview that since there are multiple challenges on the table, it is only proper for VP Sara to lead by testifying under oath first.

Ortega’s statement came after VP Duterte challenged the Young Guns of the House of Representatives to take drug and psychological tests.

Ortega emphasized that they have no issue with taking the tests as they have nothing to hide, adding that he does not drink alcohol.

He also proposed that a neutral third party, composed of medical experts, should conduct the drug and psychiatric exams to ensure objectivity and transparency.

Young Guns members stressed the importance of VP Duterte explaining how she utilized the funds of the Office of the Vice President (OVP) and the Department of Education (DepEd).

Rep. Jay Khonghun said they accept the challenge but will not allow VP Duterte to divert attention from the real issues.

Khonghun underscored the need for public officials to be fit for office but also emphasized their accountability for their actions.

House Assistant Majority Leader and Lanao del Sur Rep. Zia Alonto Adiong said they are ready for the tests and suggested scheduling them as soon as possible.

However, Adiong also insisted that VP Duterte must first address questions surrounding the alleged misuse of her office’s funds.

House Minority Leader and Ako Bicol Party-list Rep. Jil Bongalon, a lawyer, warned that anyone who fails the drug test would face legal consequences under the Dangerous Drugs Act.

Bongalon emphasized that VP Duterte’s appearance before the Blue Ribbon Committee is crucial for transparency and good governance.

House Deputy Majority Leader and PBA Party-list Rep. Migs Nograles, along with Davao Oriental Rep. Cheeno Almario, also promised to undergo the tests.
