VP Sara Duterte’s Security Fears Deemed ‘Ironic’ Amid Grave Threats Charges

Vice President Duterte posted a P360,000 bail in a Quezon City court last Saturday, a day after an arrest warrant was issued against her for these charges.

Before entering the Quezon City Hall of Justice, Duterte stated she distrusts the police and fears for her and her family’s security, adding that she has felt insecure since 2023 due to alleged harassment against her family.

Adiong questioned this sentiment, suggesting that Duterte appeared to portray herself as a victim despite being the one facing charges related to making threats.

The lawmaker also noted Duterte’s demeanor and speech while conversing with her lawyers, which Adiong claimed did not reflect someone genuinely fearful for their life.

Consequently, Adiong found Duterte’s claims of long-standing threats unbelievable, especially given that she herself was charged for allegedly threatening a fellow official.

Nevertheless, Adiong emphasized that any actual threats against the Vice President and her family should still be thoroughly investigated.

Meanwhile, the Philippine National Police (PNP) reported that it had not received any information or reports regarding threats against Duterte and her family.

PNP Chief PGen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. affirmed that the police continue to monitor and assess the situation to ensure the Vice President’s security.
