Officials described the completion of the search as a significant step toward closure for the families of those who perished in the January 29 accident.

Rescue teams continue efforts to recover the wreckage of the passenger plane from the frigid waters of the Potomac River.

So far, crews have retrieved sections of the aircraft, including the right wing, the center section of the fuselage, parts of the left wing, the tail cone, and the rudder, according to the National Transportation Safety Board.

Recovery of the military helicopter will begin once retrieval operations for the passenger jet are completed.
