The Department of Health (DOH) reported a decline in influenza-like illness (ILI) cases in the Philippines at the start of 2025.

DOH spokesperson ASec. Albert Domingo stated that the agency recorded 1,218 ILI cases from December 22, 2024, to January 4, 2025.

This is significantly lower than the over 5,000 cases recorded from December 8 to 21, 2024, and nearly 7,000 cases from November 24 to December 7, 2024.

The DOH assured the public that there is no cause for alarm, noting that this season typically sees an increase in cough and colds.

ILI is a contagious illness caused by various viruses or bacteria, leading to infections in the nose, throat, and lungs, often accompanied by cough, colds, and fever.

Despite the decline, the DOH encouraged individuals experiencing symptoms to stay indoors and practice good hygiene to prevent further spread of the illness.
