PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr. stated on Monday that Typhoon Pepito’s effects have killed at least one person in Camarines Norte.

“All night long, we have been keeping an eye on Pepito. I am deeply sorry to inform you that there is one casualty in Camarines Norte. We understand how I feel about that; one casualty is too many, so that’s regrettable,” Marcos said to the media in Malacañang.

Typhoon Pepito hit the Philippines this weekend, bringing with it high winds and a lot of rain in Camarines Norte.

Pepito made its initial impact late Saturday on the sparsely inhabited island of Catanduanes in the typhoon-prone Bicol area, uprooting trees, bringing down power lines, and smashing fragile buildings to bits.

Marcos stated that the government was going to maintain relief and rescue efforts in Pepito-affected areas now that the typhoon’s worst had passed.

“We will now continue to rescue those remote areas and provide ongoing assistance to those who have been displaced and lack the resources to prepare their meals or obtain water.” He said, “It is our relief that we are doing this.”

“Reconstruction will also begin.”

As typhoon Pepito ravaged the Philippines over the weekend, Marcos hailed the government employees and responders who assisted.

Since this is the sixth time, we must thank all of the responders, LGUs, and employees. He remarked, “I am certain that they are worn out and that they have worked as hard as they can and will continue to do so.”

The leader of the Philippines also praised Filipinos for following official alerts, which he claimed lessened the typhoon’s impact.

“I’m thankful to them and the people for that. They assist as much as they can and adhere to our instructions regarding what must be done, thus in some ways, Pepito’s strength made things less severe than we had anticipated.”

“I hope that when Christmas comes, we Filipinos will remember our compatriots who are suffering. Anyway, what we make for Christmas, let’s distribute it to them, who are poor and poor,” he concluded.
