Villanueva Municipal Information Officer Cyril Cambalon Jr. confirmed that the victim seated in the front seat of the mini-van died instantly when the vehicle, carrying 14 passengers including the driver, fell off a 100-foot cliff along a barangay road in Sitio Tagbalugo, Barangay Dayawan.

Cambalon identified the fatality as Lyn-Lyn Zambas, a 22-year-old resident of Zone 3, Barangay Sta. Cruz, Tagoloan.

According to Cambalon, 14 passengers sustained injuries ranging from minor wounds to bruises due to the crash.

“The victims, who were coming from Villanueva, took this route to reach Tagoloan faster, but the van’s brakes failed upon reaching a steep and curved section of the road, causing the vehicle to plunge,” Cambalon explained.
