VP Sara Duterte says impeachment proceedings ‘not a priority’ amid political feud with Marcos

VICE President Sara Duterte on Wednesday said that keeping track of the impeachment proceedings filed against her is “not a priority” for her office.

“Marami akong ginagawa na trabaho,” Duterte said in a chance interview when asked if she was monitoring the House of Representatives’ proceedings.

“Hindi ‘yan ang prayoridad ngayon ng Office of the Vice President,” she added.

A House panel was scheduled on Wednesday to determine whether two impeachment complaints against Duterte were “sufficient in substance” to proceed.

Duterte, who recently declared her candidacy for the 2028 presidential election, was previously impeached by the House last year, only for the Supreme Court to dismiss the case on procedural grounds.

The renewed impeachment complaints focus largely on allegations of misuse of public funds during her term.

She is also accused of issuing a death threat against her former ally, now-President Ferdinand Marcos, with whom she is currently in a high-profile political feud.

Duterte has denied all charges. Under the Philippine Constitution, impeachment triggers a Senate trial, and a guilty verdict could bar her from politics and disqualify her from the 2028 presidential race.
