TRAGEDY occurred at Sitio Kinamagan, Barangay Poblacion in Borbon, Cebu, when a 64-year-old woman was killed and her husband seriously injured in an ambush allegedly sparked by accusations of witchcraft.
Maria and Berto, both 64, were on their way to fetch water when a gunman, identified only as “Naldo,” reportedly attacked them. Despite his injuries, Berto was able to identify Naldo as the shooter, according to Borbon Police Chief PCPT Gerry Antopina.
The suspect allegedly believed that the couple had bewitched his child, who had been suffering from recurring headaches.
Neighbors claimed Naldo had previously been throwing stones at the couple’s home and issuing threats before the fatal attack.
This incident highlights the danger of persistent superstitions in rural communities, where unfounded accusations can lead to tragic outcomes.
Local authorities are continuing their investigation, as Maria’s death has sparked grief and outrage among the community.
