Two workers from a cement company in Brgy. South Poblacion, San Fernando, Cebu, died after being buried by hot, freshly made cement on November 18, 2024.

The victims were identified as Jonel Baruedan Sr., 46, and Cholen Sabayton, 45, both residents of the area.

The San Fernando Police Station received a report about the incident nine hours after it occurred.

Initial investigations revealed that the victims were cleaning the Cement Grinding Area using vacuum equipment.

The two entered the bag house dust collector to clean the cement filter.

While working, the filter suddenly collapsed, showering the men with hot cement and trapping them.

Efforts were made to bring them to Cebu Provincial Hospital in Carcar City, but they were declared dead on arrival.

In an interview with Bombo Radyo Cebu, Jonel’s sister, Marivic Lariosa, tearfully recounted her disbelief over the tragic fate of her brother, who had worked there for 13 years.

She also appealed for financial help, especially since the victim’s eldest child had just started college.
