Tropical Storm Bebinca Brings Rains to Eastern Ph; Flash Floods and Landslides Possible

Manila, Philippines – The trough of Tropical Storm Bebinca is expected to bring scattered rains and thunderstorms to the eastern section of the country, with residents in affected areas warned of possible flash floods and landslides. The Southwest Monsoon will continue to influence weather conditions in other parts of the Philippines.

As of 3:00 AM today, Tropical Storm Bebinca is outside of Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) and was located 2,070 kilometers east of Eastern Visayas (13.3°N, 144.4°E). The storm is packing maximum sustained winds of 75 kilometers per hour (km/h), with gusts reaching up to 90 km/h, and is moving west-northwestward at a speed of 25 km/h, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

Areas Affected by the Trough of Tropical Storm Bebinca:

  • Eastern Visayas, Caraga, Sorsogon, and Masbate:
    Cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms are expected in these areas due to the storm’s trough. PAGASA has warned of possible flash floods or landslides as moderate to heavy rains are likely to affect these regions.
  • Cagayan Valley, Aurora, Quezon, and the rest of the Bicol Region:
    Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms are forecast. Severe thunderstorms could lead to localized flooding or landslides in low-lying and mountainous areas.

Metro Manila and the Rest of the Country:
The Southwest Monsoon will bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms. Although rainfall is expected to be lighter, flash floods and landslides are still possible during severe thunderstorms.


Wind and Coastal Conditions:

  • Wind Speed: Light to moderate winds will prevail across the country, blowing from the southwest to the west.
  • Coastal Waters: Slight to moderate sea conditions are expected, with wave heights ranging from 0.6 to 2.5 meters.

Residents in affected regions are advised to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions, especially those in flood- and landslide-prone areas. Local authorities have been instructed to monitor the situation closely and issue warnings when necessary. Travelers and the general public are urged to stay updated on the latest weather advisories.
