Super Typhoon Uwan Slams Northern Luzon

Super Typhoon Uwan (international name Fung-Wong) continues to batter Northern and Central Luzon with destructive typhoon-force winds after making landfall in Dinalungan, Aurora at 9:10 PM on November 9, 2025.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported maximum sustained winds of 185 km/h near the center, gustiness of up to 230 km/h, and a central pressure of 935 hPa.

The typhoon is moving northwestward at 30 km/h, with strong to typhoon-force winds extending outward up to 900 km from the center.

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 5 remains in effect over parts of Quirino (Nagtipunan), Nueva Vizcaya (Alfonso Castañeda, Dupax del Norte, Dupax del Sur), Nueva Ecija (Bongabon, Carranglan, Pantabangan), and Aurora (San Luis, Baler, Maria Aurora, Dipaculao, Dinalungan, Casiguran).

TCWS No. 4 covers Cagayan (Enrile, Solana, Tuao, Piat, Rizal), Isabela, Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, Apayao (Conner), Abra, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Ifugao, Benguet, Ilocos Norte (southern towns including Laoag City and Batac), Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Aurora, Nueva Ecija, Bulacan (Doña Remedios Trinidad, San Miguel, San Ildefonso, Norzagaray, San Rafael), Tarlac (Camiling, San Clemente, Paniqui, Gerona, Victoria, Pura, Ramos, Moncada, San Manuel, Anao, La Paz, Tarlac City, Santa Ignacia, Concepcion), Pampanga (Candaba, Arayat, Magalang), Zambales (Santa Cruz), and Quezon (Infanta, General Nakar, Polillo Islands).

TCWS No. 3 is raised over mainland Cagayan, Apayao, Ilocos Norte, Tarlac, Pampanga, Bulacan, Zambales, Bataan, Metro Manila, Rizal, Laguna, Batangas, Cavite, Quezon (Lucena City, Pagbilao, Lopez, Gumaca, Atimonan, Calauag, Tayabas City, Real, and others), and Camarines Norte.

TCWS No. 2 is in effect over Babuyan Islands, Quezon, Marinduque, Romblon, Oriental and Occidental Mindoro, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon, and Masbate including Ticao and Burias Islands.

TCWS No. 1 covers Batanes, northern Palawan including Calamian, Cuyo, and Cagayancillo Islands, Masbate, Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, Samar, Biliran, Leyte, northeastern Bohol, northern and central Cebu including Bantayan and Camotes Islands, Negros Oriental (Canlaon City, Vallehermoso, Guihulngan, La Libertad), Negros Occidental (Escalante, Sagay, Cadiz, Bacolod City, Kabankalan, and others), Guimaras, Iloilo, Capiz, Aklan, and Antique including Caluya Islands.

PAGASA warned that heavy rainfall, severe winds, and storm surges may occur far from the landfall point, urging residents in highly susceptible areas to follow evacuation orders and safety advisories.

The typhoon is expected to weaken as it traverses Northern Luzon but will remain at typhoon strength before emerging over Lingayen Gulf or coastal waters of La Union and Ilocos Sur by morning.

By November 11, Uwan will move northwestward to northward, then turn northeastward toward the Taiwan Strait by November 12, with landfall forecast in western Taiwan on November 13 before weakening further.

Authorities advised disaster risk reduction offices and the public to take all necessary measures to protect life and property, and to monitor updates from PAGASA regional services.
