Senator Lito Lapid expressed his openness to the proposal of extending the term of Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) officials to six years.

Lapid made this statement during his speech at the Liga ng mga Barangay National Congress 2024 held at the SMX Complex in Pasay City on Tuesday.

As a three-term governor of Pampanga, Lapid said he understands the heavy responsibilities of Barangay officials, having served with dedication and empathy, especially during the 1991 Mount Pinatubo eruption.

In addition, Lapid is pushing a Senate bill that aims to provide regular and fair compensation as well as additional incentives for all Barangay and SK officials.
