Senior Vice Chair Rep. Stella Quimbo has been designated as Acting Chairperson of the House Appropriations Committee following the resignation of Ako Bicol Party-list Rep. Elizaldy Co due to health issues.
House Secretary General Reginald Velasco confirmed the appointment, noting that Quimbo, as the senior vice chair, will assume the responsibilities of the committee chair in an acting capacity.
In an interview, Quimbo assured that the committee’s operations would continue uninterrupted, as directed by the House leadership.
Quimbo emphasized her mandate to ensure the committee fulfills its functions seamlessly, stating, “I was advised by the leadership to ensure that our Committee on Appropriations will continue to function as before.”
When asked if she would permanently assume the chairperson role, Quimbo clarified that her current focus is to maintain the committee’s efficiency and performance.
Secretary General Velasco further explained that the formal appointment of a new committee chair requires plenary action.
The House Appropriations Committee plays a vital role in budget deliberations and the approval of appropriations for government programs.
