President Marcos and First Lady to Attend Pope Francis’ Funeral in Vatican

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and First Lady Liza Marcos are set to depart for the Vatican tonight to attend the funeral of Pope Francis on Saturday, April 26.

The information was confirmed by Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Claire Castro during a media briefing.

According to Castro, there will be no pre-departure honors for the President’s trip tonight.

She also stated that the list of officials accompanying the President has not been finalized or disclosed.

Additionally, Castro said she has no information on who will be appointed as caretaker of the country during the President’s absence.

However, the Palace is expected to make an official announcement before the First Couple’s departure later tonight.

Castro added that there is no information yet on the President’s return date or whether he will engage in any other official activities in Europe.

The funeral of Pope Francis will be held at the Basilica of St. Mary Major in Rome.
