The Philippine National Police (PNP) has expressed readiness to assist the Department of Justice (DOJ) once former Negros Oriental 3rd District Representative Arnolfo “Arnie” Teves Jr. is returned to the Philippines.
PNP Chief General Rommel Marbil stated that while they are not yet informed of the DOJ’s current preparations, the police force is prepared to offer immediate assistance upon Teves’ arrival.
Marbil also confirmed that aside from providing police escorts, custodial facilities are ready to house the former lawmaker if necessary.
Teves was arrested early Tuesday morning at his residence in Dili, Timor-Leste.
The DOJ remains uncertain about the grounds for his arrest, speculating that it may be due to his status as an undocumented foreigner after his passport was canceled or in connection with the Philippines’ formal extradition request.
Teves is facing serious criminal charges in the Philippines, having been tagged as the mastermind behind the assassination of Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo.
