The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has assured the public that it will continue deploying maritime vessels in the disputed waters of the West Philippine Sea.
Officials emphasized that their commitment to maintaining presence and patrols in the Philippine territory remains firm.
PCG spokesperson Commodore Jay Tarriela stated that the initiative aims to safeguard the livelihood of Filipino fishermen who rely on the area for their income.
The agency will continue sending coast guard vessels to ensure the safety and uninterrupted fishing operations of locals in the contested waters.
Tarriela noted that in previous years, numerous incidents of harassment against Filipino fishermen were reported, often without immediate assistance.
He highlighted that today, the Philippine Coast Guard is actively present to provide support and rescue operations whenever needed.
The deployment of vessels in the West Philippine Sea remains a priority for the PCG.
Tarriela emphasized that President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., along with the Philippine Coast Guard and the Armed Forces of the Philippines, is committed to ensuring the safety and security of Filipino fishermen.
The government supports efforts to monitor and protect Filipino fishing communities in the disputed maritime territory.
