Philippine Army Marks 128th Anniversary with Large-Scale Military Exercise

The Philippine Army launched its 128th founding anniversary celebration, emphasizing national defense readiness through large-scale exercises and capability demonstrations.

Army Chief Lt. Gen. Roy M. Galido formally commenced the anniversary activities during a media gathering at the Philippine Army Officers’ Clubhouse, Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City, on February 17, 2025.

“Our theme ‘Matatag na Sandigan ng Bagong Pilipinas’ is a powerful declaration of our enduring commitment to be a steadfast pillar of support for a new and stronger Philippines,” Lt. Gen. Galido stated.

As part of the commemoration, the Army will conduct the second iteration of its unilateral military exercise, “Exercise Katihan,” from February 17 to March 22, 2025.

The main highlight will be the Combined Arms Training Exercise (CATEX) “Katihan” 02-25, scheduled from March 3 to March 22, at Fort Magsaysay, Nueva Ecija.

The celebration will culminate in an anniversary program on March 22 at the Headquarters Philippine Army, Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City, with President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr. as the Guest of Honor and Speaker.

Lt. Gen. Galido honored the Army’s legacy, highlighting its crucial role in national defense and the unwavering dedication of its personnel.

“Beyond that, it is about the men and women entrusted with our country’s defense. It is about the bravery of soldiers who serve selflessly, the dedication of our officers who lead with integrity, and the resilience of our entire workforce, both military and civilian,” he remarked.

The anniversary events will focus on soldier welfare, strategic leadership development, reserve force enhancement, cybersecurity advancements, and military capability demonstrations.
