PASIG City Mayor Vico Sotto placed the city under red alert at noon on Monday, July 21, as Wawa Dam reached a critical level amid continuous heavy rains brought by the southwest monsoon.
Sotto confirmed that the city’s Incident Management Team has been fully activated and is closely monitoring water levels at the dam.
As of 12 p.m., the water level at Wawa Dam stood at 134.06 meters, just below its 135-meter spilling level.
“If this overflows, the Marikina River will rise rapidly,” Sotto warned.
He said the city government is coordinating with Barangay Santolan, Sta. Lucia, and flood-prone communities along the Floodway.
The mayor also urged residents to remain alert and strictly follow evacuation orders should they be issued by barangay officials or disaster responders.
“Don’t panic, but follow our DRRMO if told to evacuate,” Sotto advised.
