THE Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) announced that it will file criminal charges against more than 40 individuals allegedly involved in the violent September 21 protest near Ayala Bridge and Mendiola in Manila.
CIDG Director Police Major General Robert Morico II said investigators are finalizing case documents against the suspects, including those believed to have financed or instigated the unrest.
“Actually, we are going to file cases already, more than 40 ang pa-filean namin ng kaso regarding this Sept. 21 incident. So it will not stop. Including those allegedly financing the disturbance and the instigators,” Morico said in an interview.
Morico emphasized that the investigation targets only individuals who participated in acts of violence and destruction, not those who joined peaceful demonstrations.
The CIDG aims to hold accountable all parties involved, particularly those in higher positions who may have planned or funded the unrest.
“The violent incidents at Recto were widely shared on social media. There were acts of arson, injuries to police and civilians, and damage to public property, including PNP facilities. We are investigating the commission of criminal acts,” he said.
Morico also confirmed that information provided by local officials, including Manila Mayor Isko Moreno Domagoso, is being thoroughly reviewed and investigated.
Moreno had earlier received reports naming certain individuals, including a former politician and a lawyer, who may have funded the disturbance.
