The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) announced on Sunday, January 26, that the northeast monsoon is currently affecting Luzon, while easterlies influence weather conditions in the rest of the country.

According to PAGASA’s 4:00 AM weather bulletin, easterlies—warm winds originating from the Pacific Ocean—are expected to bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Caraga, Zamboanga Peninsula, BARMM, Southern Leyte, and Eastern Samar. Heavy rains in these areas may lead to flooding or landslides.

The northeast monsoon, or “amihan,” is forecast to bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with moderate rains in Batanes, while Metro Manila and other parts of Luzon will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains. No significant impact is expected from these rains.

Meanwhile, the rest of the country will likely experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the easterlies. Heavy thunderstorms may still cause flooding or landslides in affected areas.

PAGASA confirmed that no low-pressure area (LPA) or tropical cyclone is currently being monitored inside or outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).
