NIA Engineer Killed in Motorcycle Collision with Pickup

A fatal collision between a motorcycle and a pickup truck claimed the life of a government employee in Barangay Santiago, Quirino, Isabela.

The victim was identified as 30-year-old Engr. John Paul Umipig, a resident of Purok 2, Barangay Sta. Lucia, Quirino, Isabela, and an employee of the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) in Ilagan City.

The white pickup truck involved was driven by 45-year-old Elvin Caliguiran, manager of ISELCO 2’s Roxas Branch and a resident of Barangay Lapogan, Tumauini, Isabela.

According to initial police investigation, both vehicles were traveling in opposite directions on a provincial road when the pickup reportedly attempted to overtake, hitting the motorcycle.

Umipig was thrown off his vehicle and subsequently run over, resulting in severe head and body injuries.

Personnel from the Quirino Police Station and Rescue 1214 responded promptly, but the victim was declared dead on arrival at RHU Quirino by the attending physician.

Caliguiran was uninjured and allegedly fled the scene before voluntarily surrendering at the Mallig Police Station.

Both vehicles have been brought to the station for proper investigation and documentation.
