As of 8:00 this morning, the number of evacuees from seven barangays in Bacolod City has nearly reached one thousand.
In an interview with Bombo Radyo Bacolod, Bacolod City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (CDRRM) Officer Mickey Siocon reported that 267 families, or 989 individuals, have been recorded as evacuated.
These evacuees are from Barangays Handumanan, Pahanocoy, Cabug, Singcang-Airport, Sum-Ag, Alijis, and Taculing.
However, Siocon admitted that some of the evacuees returned to their homes immediately after the floodwaters subsided in their areas.
They are advising the barangays to ensure that rescues don’t need to be repeated if people return home before the situation has fully stabilized.
He expressed relief that no injuries have been reported.
Siocon urged residents to evacuate during severe weather calamities, especially those living in flood-prone areas.
At the same time, he advised barangay officials to be prepared for swift responses and rescues during such disasters.
