THE National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) elevated its alert status to red at noon Thursday in preparation for the possible impacts of Tropical Depression Crising.
In a public advisory posted on Facebook, the NDRRMC announced that all duty officers from the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), and the Philippine National Police (PNP) are now required to report for duty at the NDRRMC Operations Center in Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City.
Also mobilized are technical personnel from several government agencies, including the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Department of Agriculture (DA), Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Department of Education (DepEd), and Department of Health (DOH).
According to 11 a.m. bulletin, 14 areas are now under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 as Crising continues to move closer to northern Luzon.
The weather bureau added that the system might strengthen into a tropical storm within the day and potentially escalate into a severe tropical storm by Friday.
Landfall over mainland Cagayan is possible over the weekend.
In anticipation of worsening weather conditions, several local government units have suspended classes at all levels, while at least two flights have been cancelled due to the disturbance.
