A 38-year-old man was arrested after a motorcycle accident revealed his possession of over P400,000 worth of suspected shabu in Barangay Taloc, Bago City, Negros Occidental, on Sunday, January 12.
The suspect, identified as Robert Bustamante, a mechanic and resident of Barangay 3, Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental, is tagged as a High-Value Individual (HVI).
According to Police Lieutenant Colonel Jay F. Malong, chief of the Bago City Police Station, a traffic investigator responded to the reported accident at KM Trese y Media.
While inspecting the scene, authorities noticed an improvised glass tooter and the suspect’s reluctance to release a plastic item he was holding, which raised suspicions.
Upon further inspection, police discovered three large sachets of suspected shabu weighing approximately 67 grams and valued at P456,000, along with a glass tooter, a cellphone, and P1,580 in cash.
Investigations revealed the suspect was en route to Himamaylan City from Bacolod aboard a Suzuki 150CC Raider motorcycle when he attempted to overtake a truck.
The suspect failed to navigate the maneuver and collided with the truck, causing him to fall and sustain injuries, rendering him unable to stand.
Residents assisting the suspect noticed the glass tooter and plastic sachets, prompting them to alert authorities.
The suspect is currently receiving treatment for his injuries at the Bago City Hospital and will face charges for violating R.A. 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
