A magnitude 6.8 earthquake struck the southern region of New Zealand, according to seismological reports.

The initial recorded magnitude of the earthquake was 7.0, with a depth of 10 kilometers.

The earthquake’s epicenter was located 160 kilometers from the mainland, but no casualties or damages have been reported so far.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Honolulu confirmed that no tsunami warning was issued following the tremor.

Authorities are continuing to monitor the situation in the affected areas.

Meanwhile, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) also confirmed that no tsunami threat was expected in the Philippines.
