Lacson Warns Senate Against Dismissing VP Sara Impeachment Complaint

Incoming Senator Panfilo Lacson warned his fellow senators against any move to dismiss the impeachment complaint filed against Vice President Sara Duterte.

Lacson emphasized that it is inappropriate for any senator-judge to file a motion to dismiss, as their role in the impeachment court is to hear and decide on the case.

He underscored that no precedent exists where a member of the impeachment court has recommended dismissing the very case it is convened to try.

The senator noted that motions to dismiss should come solely from the defense panel and not from members of the judging body.

He added that the impeachment court could be ridiculed if a senator-judge suddenly motions for dismissal in the middle of proceedings, gavel in hand.

Lacson said he is ready to hear the evidence to be presented by both the prosecution and the defense to determine the merit of the charges.

He reiterated the importance of allowing the prosecution to present its case as outlined by the Constitution.

The senator maintained that constitutional due process must prevail throughout the impeachment proceedings.
