The January 6, 2021, US Capitol attack was brought up once again during a debate between US Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump on September 11.

During the debate, Trump was asked if he had any regrets regarding the rally that led to the historic January 6 attack, which occurred just days before his official departure from office.

Trump denied responsibility for the incident, stating that although he urged his supporters to reject the election results, he did not encourage them to engage in violence.

Rather than directly addressing the question, Trump shifted the conversation to other issues such as illegal immigrants and criminals, which he claimed the current administration failed to hold accountable.

Vice President Harris took advantage of the topic to portray Trump as a candidate who condones and supports violent events.

Harris, who was a senator at the time of the attack, said she was present at the US Capitol when Trump’s supporters stormed the building, vandalized property, destroyed significant parts of US history, and attacked people inside.

She emphasized that these events occurred under Trump’s watch as he was still president at the time.

It can be recalled that the incident led to Trump’s second impeachment, even though he had only a week left in office. He was accused of inciting insurrection due to a speech he gave prior to the Capitol attack.
