March is Colon Cancer Awareness Month, highlighting the need for greater public knowledge about this life-threatening disease.

In an interview with Bombo Radyo Dagupan, Dr. Glenn Joseph Soriano, a US-based doctor and natural medicine advocate, emphasized that colon cancer is often linked to unhealthy lifestyle choices.

Poor eating habits and a sedentary lifestyle are among the key factors contributing to the disease.

According to Dr. Soriano, colon cancer begins as a small growth, similar to a pimple inside the intestine, which, when frequently disturbed, gradually develops into cancer.

“Karaniwan itong tumutubo sa dulo ng colon ng tao o di naman kaya ay sa rectum.” (It commonly develops at the end of the colon or in the rectum.)

Several factors can contribute to the development of colon cancer, but one major risk is irregular bowel movement.

Dr. Soriano explained that daily bowel movement is crucial, as going two to three days without it may negatively impact overall health.

He urged the public to seek medical consultation immediately if they experience any symptoms associated with colon cancer.
