The Young Guns bloc of the House of Representatives has expressed full support for the appointment of Police Major General Nicolas Torre III as the new chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP).
In a joint statement, Representatives Zia Alonto Adiong of Lanao del Sur, Jay Khonghun of Zambales, Paolo Francisco Ortega V of La Union, Rodge Gutierrez of 1RIDER Party-list, and Ernest “Ernix” Dionisio of Manila commended President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. for what they described as a move towards a more accountable and professional law enforcement institution.
The lawmakers emphasized that Torre’s appointment reflects a strong commitment to justice and the rule of law.
Torre, currently serving as director of the PNP Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), is a graduate of the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) Class of 1993.
He previously served as the director of both the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) and the Davao Regional Police Office.
According to the Young Guns, Torre’s firm decisions, even in high-profile cases, demonstrate his unwavering adherence to the law.
They also expressed hope that Torre’s leadership would promote greater transparency and stronger community engagement within the police force.
The group urged the public to support the new PNP chief in his efforts to bring meaningful reforms to the institution.
