Holiday Road Crash Death Toll Rises to 5 – DOH

DEPARTMENT of Health (DOH) announced on Monday that five people have died in road accidents during the holiday season, with three fatalities involving motorcycle crashes.

Based on the DOH’s latest data, 39 new road traffic incidents were recorded, bringing the total to 457 since December 22.

Among those involved, 393 individuals were found not wearing safety gear, while 76 incidents were linked to alcohol consumption.

Motorcycles were the most commonly involved vehicles, accounting for 322 cases.

To reduce accidents, the DOH urged the public to prioritize road safety by:

  • Wearing helmets while riding motorcycles and seat belts in cars.
  • Avoiding alcohol consumption before driving.
  • Following speed limits and road signs.
  • Ensuring drivers get adequate rest, with seven to eight hours of sleep, before traveling.

    In case of emergencies, motorists are advised to call the 911 emergency hotline or the DOH hotline at 1555.
