American Grammy-winning singer Peabo Bryson has passed away at the age of 75.
According to his family, the R&B legend died on Tuesday, June 2, after recently suffering a stroke.
Bryson was best known for the 1984 ballad “If Ever You’re in My Arms Again” and his hit duets “Tonight, I Celebrate My Love” with Roberta Flack, “Beauty and the Beast” with Celine Dion, and “A Whole New World” with Regina Belle.
The singer won Grammy Awards for both Disney duets and earned a total of eight Grammy nominations throughout his career.
In an interview with Star FM Manila on February 6 this year, Bryson expressed his appreciation for Filipino fans, saying that hearing them sing along to his songs was a feeling unlike any other.
“There’s nothing quite like it, is it? There’s nothing like it when you’re singing a song and the world sings along with you. There’s nothing like it; you can’t script it yourself. You can’t make it happen. You have to be divinely blessed with it,” he said.
At the time, just a month before his scheduled The Golden Torch Tour in the Philippines, Bryson said he was looking forward to sharing the experience with Filipino audiences.

“I’ll be standing right there among the Filipino people, and we will be fellowshipping together, and I hope everybody gets a shot of it because it’s a wonderful thing to do. When I’m out there among you, and we’re having fun, and we’re singing the same song for the same reason, and the same lyrics, that fellowship is undeniable. And the Filipinos are really good at it!”
The legendary singer staged his final Philippine performance during The Golden Torch Tour in Parañaque City on March 8, 2026.
