‘God bless the Philippines’: Paolo Duterte hits Remulla’s Ombudsman appointment, calls it a cover-up move

DAVAO City Rep. Paolo “Pulong” Duterte has criticized President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s appointment of Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla as the country’s new Ombudsman, calling it a move to shield those in power.

In a Facebook post laced with sarcasm, Duterte said Remulla’s designation “makes sense” for an administration allegedly trying to conceal its problems.

“With all the issues hounding those in power right now, they need all the help they can get to cover themselves up, even at the cost of making a mockery of our Constitution. God bless the Philippines,” Duterte wrote.

Remulla’s appointment came after the retirement of Ombudsman Samuel Martires in July.

The Palace, however, defended the choice, saying it underscores the administration’s commitment to transparency and accountability.

“There will be no sacred cows, no exemptions, and no excuses. Public office is a public trust, and those who betray it will be held accountable,” Malacañang said in a statement.
