Former Vice President Leni Robredo will run for mayor of Naga City in the 2025 elections, according to Liberal Party (LP) president and Albay Representative Edcel Lagman, who announced this on Thursday, June 13, 2024.

“Ang last namin na pag-uusap ay siya (Robredo) ay tatakbo as mayor ng Naga City upang ipagpatuloy ang programa ng kanyang late husband,” Lagman stated in a virtual press briefing.

(During our last conversation, she mentioned that she plans to run for mayor of Naga City to maintain her late husband’s programs.)

Robredo, who ranked second in the 2022 elections, is the widow of Jesse Robredo, the late Interior and Local Government secretary and longtime Naga mayor.

The late mayor Robredo received the 2000 Ramon Magsaysay Award for Good Governance for leading Naga City to development via citizen participation in government policy development.

Lagman also stated that the former vice president will run for the Senate slate of the LP and other parties in the 2025 elections.

Conversely, Lagman did not name any of the candidates the LP and its partners are contemplating for the 2025 elections.

A different source close to Robredo confirmed that the former vice president has returned to Naga City from Magarao, Camarines Sur.

Naga City is governed by the Camarines Sur province geographically rather than politically. As a result, Naga City people do not vote for Camarines Sur provincial government leaders.

The filing period for the 2025 elections is scheduled for October of this year.#
