Former President Duterte in Police Custody After ICC Arrest Warrant Served

Former President Rodrigo Duterte is now in the custody of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), Senator Christopher “Bong” Go confirmed.

Duterte was taken into custody after returning to the Philippines from Hong Kong.

The former president traveled to Hong Kong last Thursday to support PDP-Laban senatorial candidates in their campaign.

He arrived at the VIP area of NAIA Terminal 3 this morning, despite an initial schedule for Tuesday afternoon.

Authorities enforced tight security inside and around the airport during his arrival.

According to Malacañang, INTERPOL Manila received the official copy of the arrest warrant from the International Criminal Court (ICC) early this morning.

Upon Duterte’s arrival, the Prosecutor General served the ICC notification for an arrest warrant related to crimes against humanity.

The former president and his entourage were reported to be in good health and were examined by government doctors.

Officials ensured that Duterte was in proper condition while under custody.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) officers who served the warrant were equipped with body cameras to maintain transparency.

As of now, Duterte remains in the custody of the authorities.
