LOS ANGELES, CA—The Philippine Consulate in Los Angeles is working with the Sheriff’s Department to see whether any Filipinos or Filipino Americans have been impacted by the expanding wildfire in Franklin, Malibu, Los Angeles, California.
The Consulate issued an advisory reminding Filipinos and Filipino Americans near the wildfire to comply with officials’ regulations and evacuation instructions.
The wildfire, which is in the northwest region of Los Angeles County, is still spreading and poses a threat to communities, particularly a large number of Filipinos who live nearby.
Approximately 13,000 inhabitants, including celebrities, are currently under evacuation orders.
It has already burned more than 12,000 hectares, with approximately 1,500 firemen working jointly to suppress it.
Artists dwelling in Malibu near the fire include Barbra Streisand, Julia Roberts, Lady Gaga, Beyoncé, and Jay-Z. Dick Van Dyke, an American actor and comedian, has already left his home, as has Cher, a singer and actress.
Antonette Villa of the Consulate’s Assistance to Nationals section stated that they have been watching the wildfire situation in Malibu since it began on December 9.
According to reports, the Consulate wrote to the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Office to inquire about the general circumstances surrounding the incident.
The Philippine Consulate General’s Office in Los Angeles is urging concerned Filipinos to reach out to them urgently for support.

The Los Angeles Incident Department’s arson detectives continue to investigate the cause of the incident.
