Family Tragedy: L300 Van Crash Claims Seven Lives

Seven people were confirmed dead following a vehicular accident in Magsangyaw, Tupi, South Cotabato, on Monday, December 23, 2024.

Initial reports from authorities revealed that a family group was traveling in an L300 van after a photo shoot at the Magsangyaw Land of Praise tourist spot.

The accident occurred when the vehicle’s brakes reportedly failed while descending from the elevated area, causing the driver to lose control.

The van collided with a tree before plummeting downhill, resulting in significant damage and throwing some passengers out of the vehicle.

Emergency responders rushed to the scene, but seven passengers were declared dead on arrival.

A video from the site showed the wreckage and several passengers lying on the ground, highlighting the severity of the incident.

The victims included Annabelle Maglente, 52; Joan Maglente, 28; Joel Maglente; Duke Maglente; and Ike Maglente, all from Cagayan de Oro City, visiting Polomolok for a family vacation.

Two minors, Marga, 7, and Yuna, 8, from Polomolok, South Cotabato, also perished in the tragedy.

The van driver, Oliver Maglente, survived the crash with multiple injuries and is currently receiving medical attention.

The victims’ remains were brought to the morgue of the Tupi Municipal Hospital for processing.
