A couple and their daughter died after a pick-up truck collided with their motorcycle in Barangay Canas, San Dionisio, Iloilo.
The victims were identified as Artemio, around 60 years old; Angelie, around 50 years old; and their 15-year-old daughter, all residents of Barangay Cubay in the same municipality.
The pick-up truck driver was named Alex, a 26-year-old businessman from Calinog, Iloilo.
Police Captain Edward Villanis, officer-in-charge of the San Dionisio Municipal Police Station, told Bombo Radyo that the motorcycle and pick-up truck were traveling in the direction of Estancia when the accident happened at around 7 PM on November 9.
Due to the darkness on the national highway, it is alleged that when the pick-up truck overtook, it struck the motorcycle, dragging it for around 100 meters.
The couple died on the spot, while their daughter was rushed to Sara Hospital but was later declared dead.
Head injuries were reported as the cause of death for all three victims.
Another motorcyclist following the victims suffered minor injuries but has since been discharged from the hospital.
Police stated that the pick-up truck driver initially paused at the scene but, in fear, drove away and later surrendered at the San Dionisio Police Station.
Authorities are preparing to file multiple charges against Alex, including Reckless Imprudence Resulting in Multiple Homicide and Damage to Property.
The victims’ family is also determined to press charges.
Additionally, the driver may face charges of Reckless Imprudence Resulting in Physical Injuries for the injuries sustained by the other motorcyclist.
The driver remains detained at the San Dionisio Municipal Police Station as investigations continue.
