Former Vice President Leni Robredo was unable to join President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on stage during the inauguration of the Sorsogon Sports Arena in Sorsogon City earlier today due to a subsequent appointment.
According to Senate President Chiz Escudero, the original plan included Robredo accompanying the President and other guests on stage to watch a synchronized dance performance.
However, Robredo left early to attend an appointment in Naga City, where she is running for mayor in the 2025 midterm elections.
Escudero noted that before departing, Robredo waited for the President to arrive at the venue.
It can be recalled that Marcos and Robredo were fierce political rivals, facing off in the 2016 vice-presidential race and again in the 2022 presidential election.
Former Senator Bam Aquino, who was also present, shared that Robredo and Marcos had a cordial interaction as they were both guests of Sorsogon Governor Jose Edwin Hamor and Senate President Escudero.
Escudero explained that Robredo’s presence at the event was due to an invitation, and she waited for Marcos out of respect, ensuring she did not overshadow the moment.
The senator emphasized that their meeting could mark the beginning of reconciliation.
