PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has appointed Eric M. Mercado as the new Assistant Director of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).
Mercado, who now holds the rank of Director IV, formally took his oath of office on Friday before Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla.
Before his promotion, Mercado served as Assistant Regional Director of the NBI’s National Capital Region (NCR) office, where he played a key role in overseeing major investigations and operations across Metro Manila—the country’s largest and most complex jurisdiction.
His extensive background in field operations and regional management is seen as a strong asset to the NBI’s national leadership.
Malacañang said Mercado’s appointment reflects the Marcos administration’s push to strengthen the bureau’s leadership and capacity to address high-level crimes.
As Assistant Director, Mercado will help implement the NBI’s mandate to conduct complex investigations and uphold the rule of law nationwide.
