The Philippine Embassy in the Netherlands immediately provided consular assistance to former President Rodrigo Duterte upon his arrival at Rotterdam Airport.
According to the embassy, they assisted Duterte as soon as his plane, RP-C5219, landed, following the directive of the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).
Due to Europe’s winter season, the embassy provided winter clothing and care packages for the former president and his team.
Duterte’s nurse and aide were granted a two-day visa to rest before their return flight to the Philippines.
Meanwhile, former Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea, serving as Duterte’s legal counsel, was issued a 15-day visa, allowing him to visit the former president at the ICC Detention Center in Scheveningen, The Hague.
The Philippine Embassy also requested ICC officials and the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs to closely monitor Duterte’s medical and physical condition.
Upon arrival, an ICC nurse coordinated with Duterte’s personal nurse to assess his health status.
The former president underwent a medical check-up upon entering the ICC Detention Center.
ICC officials provided Duterte with the names and contact numbers of embassy representatives should he require assistance.
Supporters and critics of Duterte gathered outside the ICC Detention Center upon his arrival.
