Two individuals suspected of having MPOX are currently under close observation by the Department of Health 12 (DOH 12) after exhibiting symptoms consistent with the disease, including rashes, fever, and skin lesions.

According to Dr. Dyan Parayao, Medical Officer 4 of DOH-CHD 12, the individuals, though not yet confirmed to have MPOX, were immediately isolated to prevent potential transmission of the virus.

Samples from the patients have been sent to the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) to determine the cause of their symptoms.

In addition to monitoring the patients, the department is also closely observing their close contacts. While MPOX is not easily transmitted through the air, it can be spread through skin-to-skin contact or droplets from sneezing or coughing.

In response, DOH 13 has been preparing to implement measures to address the situation if necessary while awaiting the RITM results and further guidance from the office.

The agency has advised the public in the region to avoid crowded places where skin-to-skin contact is possible, continue wearing protective gear, maintain hand hygiene, and remain vigilant and alert.
