The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) has strongly denied circulating claims on social media that voters without a National ID will be barred from voting in the May 12, 2025 elections.
COMELEC spokesperson Atty. John Rex Laudiangco clarified that the posts bearing the phrase “NO NATIONAL ID, NO VOTE” are false and have not been issued by the commission.
Laudiangco emphasized that voters will only be asked to present a valid ID if there is a doubt regarding their identity based on the Election Day Computerized Voters’ List (EDCVL).
He reiterated that a National ID is not a requirement to vote and that voter verification on election day will follow standard protocols already in place.
The COMELEC official advised the public to verify information and avoid sharing unconfirmed posts circulating online.
Laudiangco also urged citizens to rely only on official announcements from COMELEC and other legitimate government sources to avoid confusion.
