A coconut harvester is facing a murder charge after allegedly hacking his friend to death in Purok 9, Barangay Looc, Villanueva, Misamis Oriental.

Villanueva Police Station Deputy Commander Lt. Ronnie Donasco identified the victim as 48-year-old Allan Dayle and the suspect as a certain alias “Bado,” both residents of the same town.

Donasco said they initially had three persons of interest, but only one was ultimately pointed out and later admitted to committing the crime.

The suspect claimed he had no personal issues with the victim but admitted that he suddenly felt compelled to kill him using a coconut meat machete.

He confessed to having used illegal drugs, specifically shabu, while drinking with the victim and other friends earlier that day but left the gathering shortly after.

Due to the effects of the drug, the suspect said he was overwhelmed by intrusive thoughts and followed the victim to the bathroom, where he attacked him repeatedly with the machete.

The suspect has since asked for forgiveness from the victim’s family, expressing remorse over his actions.

Authorities are preparing the necessary documents to file a formal murder complaint against the suspect with the city prosecutor’s office.
