A carpenter was killed after a boom truck ran over his head in Barangay Logac, Lallo, Cagayan, leading to a compromise agreement between the victim’s family and the truck driver.

PCMS Rizal Clemente, the investigator from the Lallo PNP, stated that the agreement, facilitated with a lawyer present, was reached at the police station.

The victim’s wife, Judy Miguel, agreed to a settlement of P150,000 to be paid by the truck driver, Mark John Corpuz, 29, a resident of San Fermin, Cauayan City, Isabela.

Corpuz has already made an initial payment of P50,000, with a commitment to pay the remaining P100,000 once the vehicle insurance is processed.

Clemente mentioned that if Corpuz fails to pay the agreed amount, the case against him will proceed.

According to the investigation, the victim, identified as 62-year-old carpenter Judy Miguel, was speeding on his motorcycle toward the national highway from a barangay road and failed to notice the approaching boom truck.

This caused the victim to lose control of his motorcycle and hit a parked “kuliglig” vehicle, resulting in his fall.

Upon falling, the boom truck ran over the victim’s head, causing his immediate death.

Clemente also noted that the victim was not wearing a helmet at the time of the incident.
