A car carrying two passengers plunged into a river from the Pinacanauan Overflow Bridge in Tuguegarao City early Tuesday morning around 3:00 a.m.
According to PLT Rosemarie Taguiam, PNP Tuguegarao’s information officer, the female driver admitted she fell asleep at the wheel, causing the accident.
Both occupants of the vehicle sustained minor injuries and were immediately brought to the hospital before being discharged to return home.
The driver explained that she had just finished work when she and a friend decided to eat at a fast-food restaurant and visit a coffee shop in Barangay Namabbalan.
While driving back to the city proper to drop off her friend, she dozed off, leading to the vehicle’s fall into the river.
Fortunately, the driver and her passenger managed to exit the car quickly and climb out of the water safely.
The car, which sustained significant damage, has since been retrieved from the river.
