BANGKO Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Deputy Governor Lyn Javier emphasized that banking digitalization goes beyond simply offering online platforms.

According to her, true digital transformation involves automating internal processes such as report generation, risk exposure analysis, and the efficient use of banking resources.

However, Javier cautioned banks against overspending on technology without a clear return on investment.

She stressed that the investment must be proportionate to the benefits, and should be guided by key considerations—what the bank truly needs, what should be prioritized, and how digital tools can improve customer service.

She further noted that the ultimate goal of digital transformation is to enhance operational efficiency, strengthen risk management, and improve client services.

These improvements, she said, are especially important for smaller banks seeking to remain competitive alongside fully digital banks.
