Batuan, Bohol, confirmed its first case of African Swine Fever (ASF) after blood samples from pigs in Barangay Poblacion Sur tested positive.
Mayor Dodo Jumawid reported that approximately 30 pigs had died, prompting immediate burial, as authorities investigate the outbreak’s origin.
The affected barangay is under lockdown, with strict biosecurity measures in place to prevent the virus from spreading to other areas.
Local officials have advised neighboring barangays to remain vigilant and implement preventive measures against ASF transmission.
Governor Aris Aumentado confirmed that a similar ASF outbreak in Barangay San Vicente, San Miguel, was contained using stringent protocols.
Aumentado emphasized that the same containment procedures will be applied in Batuan to ensure swift action and control of the disease.
The governor urged early detection of ASF cases to facilitate efficient containment and minimize its impact on the hog industry.
