House Quad Committee Leader and Surigao del Norte Representative Robert Ace Barbers has called on the Department of Justice (DOJ) to file murder charges against retired police Colonels Royina Garma and Edilberto Leonardo in connection with the 2020 shooting of retired police General Wesley Barayuga.

Barbers stated that they have been in close coordination with the DOJ, which has representatives monitoring their hearings, especially as they expose a crime.

He referenced revelations made by Police Lt. Col. Santie Mendoza of the Philippine National Police Drug Enforcement Group (PNP-PDEG), along with drug informant Nelson Mariano, who implicated Garma and Leonardo as being behind the assassination of the former Lotto official.

“Given these revelations, the DOJ must act and file charges against Garma and Leonardo,” Barbers asserted.

During last Friday’s Quad Committee hearing, Surigao del Sur Representative Johnny Pimentel suggested including a recommendation in the committee report to charge Garma and Leonardo.

Previously, the PMA Matikas Class of 1983 released a statement praising the Quad Committee for bringing to light the assassination of Barayuga, a member of PMA Class 1983.
